About Jeremy

Jeremy Byron Hamp has been practicing therapeutic bodywork on the Sunshine Coast for 6 years. He graduated in 2005 from Langara College with a diploma in Shiatsu Therapy. Jeremy began training in Myofascial Release in 2008. He first completed a specialized seminar on the pelvic/lumbar region and went on to complete levels 1 and 2 in Sedona, Arizona, training under John F. Barnes. Jeremy has already reviewed level 1, and plans to complete his training in 2010, with the final, level 3 course, and a guided practice at one of the centers in the US.

Young Jeremy At the heart of Jeremy’s work is his own healing journey. At the age of 2, Jeremy developed a rare bone disorder in his left hip, called Legg-Calve-Perthes. This caused an incomplete bone formation of the hip joint and a significant leg length discrepancy. Jeremy was unable to walk and went through 2 and ½ years of rehabilitation. He went in and out of Children’s Hospital and was bound to a wheelchair and leg braces. At the age of 5, doctors told him that possibly he wouldn’t walk properly again and certainly would not be able to play sports.

Eventually the joint healed itself to the degree to which Jeremy could walk again and partake in most activities. This came with limitations however, as his body’s supporting structures (fascia) were significantly affected resulting in a childhood and young adulthood of chronic pain.

Jeremy’s determination to be active carried him through his young life, but mostly without a true sense of joy. As this awareness became more and more present to Jeremy he realized that something needed to shift in his life. At the age of 26, he moved to the Sunshine Coast and thus began his healing journey. Soon after arriving on the Coast, Jeremy became involved in a native tradition of sweat lodges. The detoxification and purification process began as Jeremy started to let go of emotional clutter. As he cleared his body he began to see the impacts and parallels from his younger years on his current circumstances. He recognized that the feeling of wholeness was missing in his life. He realized that in order for there to be joy in his life he must start to love himself and begin a life of contribution. He then became attracted to yoga. Jeremy started a diligent practice, which began to open up the restricted/tight areas throughout his body. This led Jeremy to be interested in Shiatsu. The idea of “clearing energy blocks”, hands-on, while following the principles of Chinese Medicine appealed to Jeremy. Thus began his study of Shiatsu theory and application. Throughout this experience Jeremy continued to clear his blocks, as each area became free, Jeremy began to feel inspiration arising within. His body discovered newfound movement, mobility, ability and intuition.

As time went on Jeremy was able to heal much of the chronic pain, but still had a sense he was “managing” his body’s conditions. The pain would continue to surface. In 2007, Jeremy began his search for something to enhance his therapeutic practice, something that could really make the difference for him, and for others. He found Myofascial Release, the John F. Barnes approach: www.myofascialrelease.com

As Jeremy entered his MFR training he soon realized and experienced the missing link to his practice and healing. Finally the lingering pain started to diminish; as he continued the training the pain started to disappear. Jeremy experienced a profound sense of relief. Finally there was a feeling of peace.

As he continues training and therapy, the need to struggle is vanishing from his existence as an expanding sense of wholeness takes over Jeremy’s life. His spirit and openness continue to guide him deeper through his healing, while cultivating compassion and prayer for his clients, family and loved ones.

Jeremy is currently living pain free, while enjoying playing hockey and soccer 3 times a week!
