What is the John F. Barnes Myofascial Release?
Myofascial Release (MFR) is a gentle hands-on technique; where sustained pressure coupled with time is applied into the fascial system allowing areas of tightness and adhesion being treated to soften and let go. This phenomenon of piezoelectricity is what allows for these myofascial restrictions to soften, and melt away. This is the crucial tool that will help you address both the cause and the symptom of your body's aches, pains and dysfunctions. The old way was too quick and rough, thus resulting in temporary results at best. This MFR approach is done directly on the skin, without the aid of tools or oils which allows the therapist to anchor on the fascial system. The session is unique to each Individual because the therapist is constantly working on the areas of their body that may feel hot, hard, tender or lack glide, these are the restrictions preventing movement, causing pain/dysfunction or storing trauma. What sets Myofascial Release apart from other forms of treatment? The JFB MFR is a true whole body approach. We may treat the symptoms, but also look elsewhere for the cause. For example, many clients will seek treatment due to knee pain. A more traditional approach would focus solely on the affected knee, but we will scan the entire body. We may find that there is a torsion in the pelvis causing the body to be pulled out of alignment, the body’s compensation leads to pain in the knee in one client and yet in another client, it can be a completely different myofascial presentation responsible for the knee pain. Myofascial release truly allows for each treatment to be customized to your own body and its own journey to recovery as each person is a collection of different life events that lead to the pain, dysfunction, etc. that makes them seek therapy. If we were to treat only the knee and not look elsewhere for the cause, even if the knee symptoms were to improve, those improvements could only be temporary. |
